More Information About Limited Driving Privilege (LDP – “Hardship License”) Law

  • In Missouri, a limited driving privilege (LDP), also known as a hardship license, may be granted to drivers whose licenses have been suspended or revoked for certain reasons, and are not eligible for reinstatement These privileges allow the driver to drive for specific purposes, such as going to work or school and are typically issued for a specific period of time.
  • There are two ways to apply for a limited driving privilege (LDP):
    • Submit Form 4595 to the Department of Revenue
      •  Submit a completed application for Limited Driving Privilege (Form 4595) to the Department of Revenue.
      • Obtain and maintain SR-22 insurance, which is referred to as high-risk insurance.
      • In certain alcohol or drug-related suspension or revocations, an ignition interlock device (IID) must be installed and maintained throughout the duration of the limited driving privilege (LDP).
    • Petition the circuit court
      • File a petition with the circuit court in the county where you live or work.
      • Obtain and maintain SR-22 insurance, which is referred to as high-risk insurance.
      • In certain alcohol or drug-related suspension or revocations, an ignition interlock device (IID) must be installed and maintained throughout the duration of the limited driving privilege (LDP).
